faculty positions at minnesota
new chairs love to have open lines available in their departments. this year, minnesota sociology has an open-area position for a senior scholar and a new open-rank position for a specialist in immigration, broadly defined. we'll be advertising and schmoozing at the asa meetings, but i thought i'd start spreading the news. to receive full consideration for either position, of course, applicants will be asked to identify the diet, habitat, and reproductive characteristics of the rodent at left.

and handle on hiring next year?
by this year, i really mean interviewing in 2006-2007 for jobs in 2007-2008. i'm not sure about jobs for 2008-2009, but we are almost always hiring. plus, there are some big initiatives cooking that could bring some additional lines.
starting 2008-2009 is what I meant.
Lars,
The best advice for anyone wanting a job at MN is to post a lot of messages to Uggen's web-blog.
Given he is chair now, you can list them on your CV.
Helpful advice, Punk. Thanks!
Actually, I should have been more clear, its only the sociology department I know.
Although I suspect that Uggen's blog carries weight thought the University!
Or pretty much any university, for that matter...
Wow, all the Uggen love.
I can't even be sarcastic toward my dissertation advisor anymore (or is it former since I graduated) ....... the masses take it seriously.

Exactly the type of clear, well-defined task I as a future academic job hunter like to see in a search process!
