soc 4111 w/ special guests the hives and outkast

do you think students might enjoy our lectures more if they had to camp outside for tickets? as you can see, i had a little fun with a ticket generator found via stereogum.
stereogum also taught me that the hives' live show inspired outkast's hey ya. this makes so much sense that i'm thinkin' maybe andre 3000 and howlin' pelle almqvist were twins raised separately in atlanta, georgia and fagersta, sweden. here's the li'l stop-action bit that mr. benjamin found so inspiring.
see you in class.

$37 for general admission??? Daaaaaaamn! When are they going to do something about these outrageous tuition rates?!?! I think I'll go to a Twins game...=)

What a fun link, thanks. I'm going to print out about a dozen of these and hang them in my office when I (hopefully) start an ass't prof gig next fall.
"Did you know that The Clash opened for the new professor's band?"
Instant cred, baby. (Given these durn kids today, I may need to insert the White Stripes for The Clash, sadly.)
4100-level sociology? That's some academic Spinal Tap action there.
Uggen,
You are SUCH a geek!
if barry manilow and the eagles are charging $150 per seat, i figure $37 is a bargain for upper-division sociology.
newport raises a good question about one's choice of opening acts. maybe i'll choose a different act for each deviance lecture -- e.g., sonic youth for my lecture on the problem of order, rush for functionalism (anyone remember "the trees"?), and ... well, there are lots of choices for suicide.
Sure, $37 is a bargain if that covers the whole semester, but your ticket only specifies Sept. 5th. Do students get a semester-long hand stamp for readmittance? Otherwise, 30 sessions (2 class meetings/week for 15 weeks) at $37 a pop is a whopping $1,110. I'm quite sure that there a very few individuals who would suffer 30 Barry Manilow concerts in three months for $4,500, but I could be wrong... Of course, comparing a fine upper-division soc lecture and a Barry Manilow concert is like comparing apples and oranges, right???
