the answer is no

esperanza's hoop dreams have piqued my interest in basketball, so i'm intrigued by the rumors putting allen iverson in wolves clothing. nobody plays harder than the man they call the answer and i'm all about the effort.

because i love music as much as sports, however, i can't forget the controversy surrounding mr. iverson's aborted career as a hip hop artist. his 40 bars is a hateful, misogynistic, homophobic rant -- and that was just the first single. sorry, i can't imagine cheering for this guy no matter how much glory he brings to my star-crossed wolves.

until i hear mr. iverson strongly distance himself from such sentiments, the answer is just an old frank marino song to me.

You know, while I definitely share your reservations about supporting someone who's sexist, heterosexist, or any other bad -ist, it's hard to single out just AI. I'd be willing to bet more than a few current wolves already share his viewpoint.

It just raises the bigger questions of whether you can support someone in one activity while not supporting most anything else they do. I feel the same way about ai that I do about Isaac Brock--I love his music, but from every account I've ever read or heard about, the guy's a jerk, plain and simple, and quite likely a rapist as well.

But he can sure make a might fine record, and that's gotta be worth something, right?

And I think it becmes a matter of perspective, though--I really like music, so I'm more likely to overlook faults in people's character (or overlook albums, like Ragged Old Flag), but I don't really care about basketball, so I have an easier time judging Iverson, because I don't get a great deal of pleasure out of watching him play, at least not like I get from hearing Johnny play.
