you shoulda heard those knocked-out jailbirds sing

in this clip, inmates of the provincial detention and rehabilitation center in cebu, philippines, challenge three beliefs held by many criminologists:

1. that criminals have little capacity for organized action.

2. that people on the inside are fundamentally and constitutionally different from people on the outside.

3. that the king's jailhouse rock video is not a faithful representation of contemporary prison life.

#3 is really funny!

Gosh, all this time I thought it was just a movie on a set with actors... I missed the documentary aspect of it.

jailhouse rock remains a great rawker but a bizarre song. there's a nice wiki on the leiber-stoller classic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jailhouse_Rock_(song)

i've never heard queen's version, but i like the covers by the jeff beck group (with rod stewart on vocals) and the two-minute live z.z. top version.

I do believe that video is made of awesome. And I never really considered Jailhouse Rock as more than a novelty tune, so thanks for the wiki link!
