This is a great item. Thanks for posting it. If I were teaching Deviance, I might use this on the first day and see what questions students raised. It reminded me of Hobsbawm's writing on the outlaw as hero to the people but anathema to the authorities. I also wonder what school statute or rule these kids broke -- how vaguely it must be worded. It would also be interesting to see what values students invoked in their reactions to the girl's divided loyalties.(That subject line -- it wouldn't be a dig at a similar title on a post in some other blog about the Strib article about its missing an important crime news story -- an article not blogged by a criminologist/journalist/Minnesotan, would it?)
