missouri expungement
any advice for christina? i know of expungement clinics in the twin cities area, but could find little online that would be helpful. after a decade of law-abiding behavior, it is sad to think that a juvenile conviction for auto theft still impedes her job search.
Christina has left a new comment on your post "ex-felon employment and expungement":
Hello, I am 30 years old and was convicted 12 years ago when I was 17 as a adult in the state of Missouri. I have 2 class c felonies for stealing of an automobile. I am looking for any way to get an expungment as looking for a job has become exausting, frustrating and degrading. I am a married mom of 2 boys and have not been in any other trouble since then. I was released in 1998 and its now 2007 and people still look at me like I am going to steal from them. How do I do something to help myself when noone else will help me? Please someone have an answer. - Christina W. no1lefthere@cox.net
there but for the grace of god...

Unfortunately, expungement is difficult (and unlikely) in Missouri. Individuals are considered adults at 17 in MO, making this case a bit harder.
She could apply for clemmency - see the information here. http://www.doc.mo.gov/division/prob/ExecClem.htm
However, the website clearly states that records (even with a full pardon) will remain part of public record.
She should look here - http://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/base/welcome.do to see if the information on public record is correct.
Even if she isn't in the St. Louis area, she may want to contact the center for Women in Transition. They are a great resource, and they may able to help here find a job.

Finally, here is a contact for legal assistance - http://www.lsem.org/ Legal services of Eastern Missouri
If anyone finds anything else, please let me know. Each semester, students contact me with similar questions. There are community members who want to help, but I do not know of anyone who has been able to expunge their record.

Legal services of Eastern Missouri will not help you because this is considered a criminal matter which they will not assist in such cases. I would contact some local charities for Legal assistance. perhaps the Center for Women in Transition can help with the legal aid. Also you do not qualify for an expungement in Missouri because you were convicted of the crime. What you need to do is to have your record of this crime Sealed, only a court order by a Judge can do this. Call the court clerk in the County/ City in which you were convicted and ask how much it cost to file with the court for a Criminal Record Seal. Next go to the County/ City were you were convicted and ask the Court clerk for assistance in filing with the Court to have you records sealed. Make sure that your arrest as well as conviction is included in the filing for a Sealed Record.
See RsMo 155.01 Circuit clerks must make availible " Petition for Expungement of Criminal Record "can be argued in civil court Pro Se (without a lawyer). Hope this helps.
