a sociologist with "scary power"

Look who is featured on Fortune's scary power list of people business hates to see coming -- a scary-smart and highly-respected sociologist fighting the good fight in employment discrimination cases.

Bill Bielby
Sociologist, University of Illinois at Chicago
Bielby has become a key plaintiffs expert in dozens of employment-discrimination class-action suits. Among his targets: Wal-Mart, Merrill Lynch, MetLife, and FedEx.

Knowing Bill, he'd much prefer a mention in Rolling Stone, Spin, or Guitar Player...

lol, ok, the title drew me in. I came to see what kind of 'scary power' you dressed up for this Halloween!
Good for Bill B.! That's a good kind of scary! He's got the power to make a difference!

One year in my TOEFL class I had several students working p/t at a Guelph slaughter house under horrific conditions/discrimination. Their stories sounded like they were out of England's pre-industrial revolution. I had trouble believing this was happening today= sleepless nights thinking how to approach the situation. Students feared losing their jobs if they complained. Through appropriate channels I contacted the Human Rights Commission. There were 27 existing charges filed agaisnt this company laying dormant! Spare you my reaction= petitions, interviews, documentation. HRC investigated- charges laid/fines paid - conditions improved/students kept their jobs- I was reprimanded being told that I was there to teach English, NOT to get politically involved.(francesca raises her eyebows) and yes I'd do it all over again!

P.S.
See what you mean. Re: Rolling Stone/Spin/GP (http://www.asanet.org/page.ww?name=William+T.+Bielby&section=Presidents) Sweet!
